African Wax Print Brigitte Dress

My Dad was in South Africa last September and I asked if he would bring me back a length of Wax Print cotton in blues/purples. He went a bit mad (helped by his cousin and my Mum's cousin!) and bought this bundle.

It took me until March to get round to making something with it. I wanted to make Emery style dress but decided that would be too dressy, I have 2 dresses like that in the wardrobe, one has been worn once and one not worn at all... So, I went for a Brigitte Dress by Simple Sew. It was a free download with a Love Sewing Mag which I had forgotten about. I figured it was a nice plain style to show off the crazy fabric.

I made it in the size my bust measurement matched with (16?) which I should stop doing as I ended up taking it in to about the size 12. It is supposed to be loose but this was more like a tent with very wide shoulders...
This is  not a style I would usually go for and I was a bit concerned it would look like a tent on me (especially after the first try on) but it looks ok. I wore it on Easter Sunday and again today so has been worn 100% more than my Emery style dresses, I think I might make another one!

A Liberty Trio

I seem to have a backlog of unblogged sewing projects and part of me can't be bothered writing them all up but the other part likes to have a record even if no one reads it so here goes!

First up is this lengthened Plantain top. I made it in a horrendously difficult to photograph Liberty jersey that I bought last year when I was making a dress out of it for one of my customers. It  was super simple to make and is perfect for wearing over skinny jeans so there is no bum on display! I promise the hem is straight, it was sitting squint on the hanger!

Next up is a Renfrew top. I have made so many of these and it is by far my favourite top pattern, it always amazes me how different fabrics look in the same pattern. This is a rather clingy Liberty jersey, I think it is Viscose and is definitely not as flattering as my cotton jersey versions! It will be fine once the post Easter bulge has been walked off though :)

Last but not least is yet another Lady Skater dress. I think this is my 7th version and it is a fab animal print cotton Liberty jersey. I say this every time but think this is my favourite so far!

I have bought and printed the Juniper Cardigan pattern so I can make a short cardi to go over my Lady Skaters. I don't wear them as often as I should as I don't have a suitable cardi so hopefully a navy wool blend one will fix that problem.

Me Made May 2017

I can't believe it is the 1st of May already! I am going to take part in Me Made May again this year and try and wear something 'me made' every day in May.

I have done this challenge for the last 3 years, last year I didn't photograph everything and this year I am going to try and photograph the clothes rather than me in them, so much easier!

I have done a major wardrobe cull since last year and I am sure there is more that needs to go so this will be a great way of identifiying what is never worn!
